Bluetooth

What is Bluetooth?

Bluetooth is a technology that allows for wireless data exchange between devices. This data is transmitted over radio waves. When connected, the two devices create their own personal area network, and exchange information as far away as up to 33 feet.

Practically speaking, this allows a device to send content to another device without having to connect the two devices physically, and allows for the devices to be further apart. You may have already seen Bluetooth at work, when people use hands-free headsets to talk while on the road.

At Icon Q, we focus on Bluetooth’s capability to stream audio wirelessly to earphones, headphones, and speakers.

What do I need to use Bluetooth?

To use Bluetooth, you need two Bluetooth-enabled devices.

We’re assuming you may already have a beautiful, brand new Boundless product in your possession. Our Boundless products are all Bluetooth-enabled.

To take advantage of its Bluetooth functionality, you need another Bluetooth-enabled device. Many devices now include Bluetooth, including smartphones, laptops, tablets, and even some TVs. If you’re not sure about your device, check your device’s settings or refer to the user manual.

How do I use Bluetooth? What is pairing?

Once you have your two devices in front of you (see question #2), get ready to pair. Pairing is the process of linking the two devices so that they can “talk” to each other.

Make sure both devices are on and charged.

Follow your Boundless product user guide to put the product into pairing mode. Most often, this involves holding the play button or other buttons for several seconds until the device’s lights flash rapidly. We will refer to this product as the “receiving” device, since it is receiving the content to stream.

On your other device, go to Settings. We will refer to this device as the “source” device, since it is the source of the content to play. Make sure Bluetooth is enabled. Wait several seconds as your source device scans the area for Bluetooth devices. Your Boundless product’s pairing ID will show up. Select the ID, and follow your source device’s instructions to pair the two devices.

For more details, including your Boundless product’s unique pairing ID, please refer to your individual product’s user guide. (You can find all Icon Q user guides on this page.)

What do you mean by my “source” device and my “receiving” device?

The source device is the device that’s the source of the content to be played. Examples include your smartphone with music, tablet or laptop.

The receiving device is the device that’s receiving the content to be played. Examples include your Boundless headphone or speaker.

How can I tell if my product has been paired?

This will vary for each Boundless product, so please refer to your individual product’s user guide. Most often, the indicator lights on your Boundless product will change from flashing rapidly in pairing mode to blinking steadily as a single color in paired mode. When you play something from your source device (such as your smartphone or tablet), the audio should be coming through your Boundless product.

How can I increase the volume on my product?

To get louder sound, you have two choices. Increase the volume directly from the Boundless product by using the product’s control buttons. Alternatively, you can increase the volume on your paired source device (such as your smartphone or tablet).

Help! There’s no button to move to the next song.

On Bluetooth products, controls will vary, including on our Boundless products. Some Bluetooth products have separate controls for separate features. However, many Bluetooth products will use a control to perform multiple functions.

Below are common combinations of functions, and how they can be used:

  • Multi-function button: Often used to play; pause; pick up a call; reject a call. May also be used to put the product into pairing mode. The function will vary based on when you press the control, and for how long.
  • Volume + / Next: Used to increase the volume and move to the next song. The function will vary based on whether you press once, or hold for several seconds.
  • Volume - / Previous: Used to decrease the volume and go back to a previous song. The function will vary based on whether you press once, or hold for several seconds.

Please refer to your individual product’s user guide for more details.

How do I charge my Bluetooth product?

You will be able to charge your Boundless product either via a micro USB cable or a mini USB cable. The cable you need is included in the box with your product. Connect the cable from your product to your computer’s USB port, and make sure your computer is turned on to charge the product.

Can I answer calls on my Bluetooth product?

Yes. All our Boundless products have a built-in mic to support taking calls, whether it’s a headphone or a speaker. If you’re connected to a smartphone, when you receive an incoming call, you will be able to press the play or call button on your Boundless product to pick up the call. After the call, press the button again, and the device will automatically go back to playing the audio you had on previously.

What if I don’t have a Bluetooth-enabled device?

If you do not have a Bluetooth-enabled device, you can still enjoy the sound and sheen of our Boundless products. With the exception of our earphones and H1 headphones, our other products allow for connection via a 3.5mm input jack (Aux In). The 3.5mm jack might be more familiar to you as the headphone jack found on most devices. Purchase a 3.5mm cable (as long as you need). Plug one end into the 3.5mm input jack on our product, and plug the other end into any device with a headphone jack.

There are also Bluetooth transmitters, which allow non-Bluetooth devices to become Bluetooth compatible. This lets regular audio devices, like an older generation media player, or a smartphone without Bluetooth, send music wirelessly to our Boundless product. Check your local electronics store, or shop online for a Bluetooth transmitter.

What is NFC?

NFC, which stands for near field communication, is a technology that allows devices to establish communication over radio waves by bringing them in close proximity or tapping them together. If you’ve ever seen people tapping their phones together, this is most likely what you were seeing in action. The communication allows for data exchange, such as photos or contact information.

This technology allows you to pair your NFC device instantly to our Boundless products with NFC compatibility.

What do I need to use NFC?

To use NFC, you need two NFC-enabled devices.

If you have a pair of our Boundless headphones, you can use their NFC feature.

To take advantage of their NFC functionality, you need another NFC device. Many smartphones running on the Android or Windows operating system, as well as some tablets, feature NFC technology. If you’re not sure about your device, check your device’s settings or refer to the user manual.

How do I use NFC?

The beauty of NFC is in its simplicity and speed. Instead of using Bluetooth to pair devices, you will use NFC. Turn on your source device (such as your smartphone or tablet). Go to Settings, and make sure its NFC capability is turned on.

Find the NFC symbol on your Boundless product. Tap the symbol with your source device, or hold your source device above the symbol for several seconds. Your source device will show that it has been connected successfully to the Boundless product within a few seconds.

Why doesn’t NFC work with my iPhone?

Unfortunately, not all smartphones possess NFC capability. Instead of pairing via NFC, you can use Bluetooth to pair your iPhone to your Boundless product.

Tablet

How do I access the tablet’s Settings?

From your tablet’s home screen, click on the applications icon. When the window appears, click on the Settings icon. This will open up a variety of functions for you to customize for your tablet.

How do I turn on the Internet?

Go to Settings. Under the category Wireless & Networks, you will see the Wi-Fi header and an ‘Off/On’ button to its right. Press on the button, and slide from ‘Off’ to ‘On’.

The tablet will scan the area for available wireless networks. When you see the wireless network you want to connect to, click on the network. Enter a password if applicable, and press ‘Connect’. The tablet will authenticate the network, and show when it is successfully connected.

How do I download applications?

From your tablet’s home screen, or the applications window, click on the Play Store icon. If you are opening this application for the first time, it will prompt you to create an account or use an existing one. If you have a Google account, fill in your account details, or follow the prompts to create a new Google account.

Once you have entered your account information and are signed in, you will be able to view applications and content from a wide variety of categories—Games, Movies, Music, and more. Select the item you are interested in, and find more details. Click ‘Install’ to download the application.

How do I change the wallpaper, or background image, on my tablet?

How can I find out details about my tablet?

My tablet is crashing, or there are issues that I can’t seem to resolve. How do I perform a factory reset?

Unfortunately, your tablet may occasionally experience some issues if, for example, you open too many applications at once. The best way to restore its functionality is to perform a factory reset of your tablet. Please note that this erases all your data from the tablet. If you want to save any data on the tablet, including photos or videos, make sure to back up your data before performing the factory reset.

Once you are ready to perform the reset, go to Settings. Under the category Personal, click on the header Backup & reset. Click on Factory data reset. On the next screen, if you want to proceed, press the button 'Reset tablet’.

How do I transfer data from my tablet to the computer, or vice versa?

Use the included cable to connect your tablet to your computer’s USB port. The tablet’s driver will begin installing on the computer.

Once the driver has finished installing, tap the notifications bar on the top screen of your tablet. Open the notification ‘USB Connected’. Press ‘Turn on USB storage’.

Your tablet will now act like an external USB device, and show up as a device on your computer. A window with options for transferring data will automatically pop up. (If it does not, go to your computer’s Start menu. Choose Computer. The tablet should be listed under Devices with Removable Storage.) Choose Open Folder to view your tablet’s files. Drag and drop files from your computer to the tablet as desired. You can also drag files from the tablet to your computer.

For more information, please refer to your individual product’s user guide.

Can I display my tablet’s screen on a larger screen, such as a monitor or TV?

Yes. Our T7.85 and T10 feature a micro HDMI port. Using HDMI is ideal for sharing photos or watching a movie with a larger group of people.

To do so, you will need a micro HDMI (Type D) cable. Connect one end to your tablet’s micro HDMI port, and connect the other to the HDMI port found on your TV or monitor. The screens should now be connected. For more options to customize the display, go to Settings. Under the category Device, click on Display, and scroll down for HDMI settings.

Can I use Bluetooth with my tablet?

Currently, Bluetooth functionality is available only on our T7.85 and T10.

To turn on the Bluetooth function, go to Settings. Under the category Wireless & Networks, you will see the Bluetooth header and an ‘Off/On’ button to its right. Press on the button, and slide from ‘Off’ to ‘On’. Your tablet will now list any Bluetooth compatible devices within its area.
